Terms of service
Last updated: 28 October 2026
These terms are the agreement between you and us for the Dupes app. By downloading or using Dupes you agree to them. How we handle your data is covered separately in the privacy policy, and how buy links work in the affiliate disclosure. If anything here is unclear, email us and a person will answer.
Who we are
Dupes is operated by Ultimate Apps Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales (company no. 17536893), registered office 71-75 Shelton Street, London WC2H 9JQ, United Kingdom (“we”, “us”). Contact: [email protected].
Your account and subscription
Dupes is a subscription app. There is no free version and no anonymous use. The first time you open it you sign in with Apple, or with Google where the app offers it, enter a code if you have one, and choose a plan.
- Plans. There are three plans: 1 month, 3 months and 12 months. All three are auto-renewing subscriptions.
- Price. The price is the one shown in the app and in the App Store or Google Play before you confirm, in your country’s currency. Each store sets the local price, so prices differ by country.
- Payment is taken by Apple or Google, whichever store you subscribed through, and charged to your store account when you confirm. We never see your card details.
- Renewal. Your subscription renews automatically at the end of each period unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the period ends. The renewal is charged to the same store account within 24 hours before the period ends, at the plan’s current price for your country.
- Cancelling is done in the store; we cannot cancel a store subscription for you. On iPhone: Settings → your name → Subscriptions → Dupes. On Android: Google Play → your profile → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions → Dupes. Cancelling stops the next renewal, and you keep access until the end of the period you have paid for.
- Price changes. If we change a plan’s price, the store tells you before it applies and asks for your agreement where the law requires it. You can cancel instead.
- Refunds are handled by the store that took the payment: Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com, or Google through Google Play. We cannot refund a store purchase ourselves, but tell us if something went wrong.
- Codes. If you have a code, you can enter it before you subscribe. The app shows what the code gives you, and until when, when you redeem it. Codes have no cash value and may not be sold or transferred.
Fair use
Your subscription is for personal use. To keep the service working for everyone, identifying a product from a photo has a fair-use limit. The app tells you when you reach it, and searching and barcode scanning are still available. We set the limit on our server and may change it; we will tell you in the app before reducing it in a way that affects normal use.
What Dupes does, and what it doesn’t
Dupes compares published ingredient lists and retailer prices to suggest lower-priced products with similar ingredients to one you already know.
- A match means the published ingredient lists line up. It does not mean two products are identical or that they will work the same way for you.
- Nothing in Dupes is medical, dermatological or safety advice. Always read the product label, especially if you have allergies or sensitive skin.
- Ingredient data comes from open databases, including Open Beauty Facts under the Open Database License, and from retailers. It can be incomplete or out of date. The retailer’s own listing is the one that counts.
- Prices, images and availability come from retailers’ feeds and can change. The price at the retailer’s checkout is the one you pay.
- We do not sell products. When you buy, you buy from the retailer, under the retailer’s terms. Some buy links are affiliate links; the affiliate disclosure explains how they work. Ranking never depends on commission.
- Brand and product names belong to their owners and are used only to identify the products compared. No endorsement is implied.
- The app can open a YouTube search for reviews of a product. YouTube’s own terms apply there, and we do not choose the results.
Using the app properly
Please don’t:
- use Dupes for anything unlawful, or to harass, defraud or harm anyone;
- scrape, copy, resell or republish the app’s data or comparisons, or use them to build a competing service;
- automate the app, share one account between many people, or try to get round the fair-use limit, the subscription or the store’s billing;
- reverse-engineer or tamper with the app, or attack, probe or overload our servers;
- submit photos you do not have the right to submit, or that are illegal.
The app and its content are ours or our licensors’. Your subscription is a personal, non-transferable licence to use the app.
Ending it
You can stop at any time: cancel in the store, and delete your account in the app (Settings, Delete account) if you also want your data removed. If you no longer have the app, see how to delete your account by email. See also the privacy policy.
We may suspend or close an account that breaks the section above, or where the law requires it. Where it is fair to do so we will tell you first and give you a chance to put it right. We may change what the app does or stop offering it; if we withdraw it entirely we will give reasonable notice.
Our responsibility
We provide the app as it is. We do not promise it will always be available or error-free, and we are not liable for losses that were not reasonably foreseeable. Nothing in these terms limits any right you have as a consumer that cannot be limited by law, or our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or for fraud.
Your rights as a consumer, and the law that applies
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If you are a consumer living in the UK, the EU or the EEA, you keep every protection that the mandatory consumer law of your own country gives you, and you can bring a claim in the courts where you live. Nothing in these terms takes that away.
The 14-day right to withdraw. Consumer law gives you 14 days to withdraw from a contract made at a distance. For digital content and services that start straight away, such as a subscription you begin using, that right ends once the service has started with your consent. By subscribing and using Dupes straight away you ask us to start immediately and acknowledge that you lose the right to withdraw at that point. If you have not used the service within those 14 days, ask the store for a refund and tell us; we will support the request.
Changes
If these terms change we will update the date above and, for significant changes, tell you in the app. Continuing to use Dupes after a change means you accept the new terms.
